What’s in Jessicurl hair products?

Every ingredient in every Jessicurl product is there for the specific positive effect it will have on your hair.

  1. Aloe Vera – Moisturizes the hair without adding heaviness.
  2. Avocado Oil – Adds moisture, softness and shine.
  3. Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol –  Emulsifies and thickens the conditioners. Aids in static control and comb ability.
  4. C 12-15 Alkyl Benzoate – Provides light conditioning with a silky-soft after feel.
  5. Cocoa Butter – An extremely moisturizing butter that softens the hair.
  6. Coconut Oil – Adds moisture, softness and shine.
  7. Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Polysorbate 60 – The combination of these two ingredients is what makes Confident Coils so nice and creamy. The Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol and is actually good for your hair. It helps to moisturize the hair.
  8. Cinnamal, Citral, Eugenol, Geraniol, Citronellol, Limonene, Linalool – These ingredients are naturally occurring active ingredients found in the essential oils used in some of the products.
  9. Decyl Polyglucose and Cocamidopropyl Betaine – Two of the most gentle cleansers on the market, these keep the Hair Cleansing Cream and Gentle Lather Shampoo from stripping your hair but still get it clean.
  10. Dehydroxanthan Gum – This is part of what makes Confident Coils so superb at creating chunky, defined curls. It also re-activates really well with water, making it easier to perk curls back up mid-day if they suffer a setback. 🙂
  11. Ethanol – You will see “Alcohol” (in this case ethanol) listed as an ingredient  in Spiralicious Styling Gel. It is a necessary component in Polyquaternium 69 which is one of the ingredients used in that gel.  The proportion of ethanol is so low in this product that it does not have a negative effect.
  12. Flax Seeds – These provide a light hold that rinses out clean and will not build up. They’re what makes Rockin’ Ringlets and Gelebration Spray brown.
  13. Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride – Thickens formula, very conditioning. Helps to leave hair silky soft.
  14. Hydrolyzed Oat Flour – Helps to thicken the formula and adds moisture to the hair.
  15. Jojoba Oil – This oil is the closest of all oils to our skin’s own natural sebum. Adds softness and shine to hair.
  16. Lecithin – Moisturizing and nourishing.
  17. Magnesium Sulfate – This is plain old Epsom salt you’d soak your tired muscles in. The magnesium is a powerful curl enhancer, which is why we use it in our styling products.
  18. Panthenol – Pro-Vitamin B5. Adds moisture and sheen to the hair.
  19. Polyimide 1 – One of the holding ingredients in Confident Coils. This ingredient is particularly powerful at providing humidity protection to keep curls well defined.
  20. Polyquaternium 11 – Water-soluble and provides hold without making the hair tacky or sticky. It is one of the key ingredients of Spiralicious Styling Gel.
  21. Polyquaternium 69 – This ingredient is water-soluble, provides hold, increased shine, frizz reduction and very effective in high humidity. Also doesn’t flake like other styling agents. It is  one of the key ingredients of Spiralicious Styling Gel.
  22. Shea Butter – An extremely moisturizing butter that comes from the Karite tree in Africa.
  23. Vegetable Glycerin – This is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the hair shaft, resulting in much softer hair. While it won’t build up on the hair, using too much at once can make your hair look greasy until you wash it again.
  24. VP/VA Copolymer – This provides some of the hold in Confident Coils.
  25. Water infused with Horsetail, Marshmallow, Basil, Burdock, Nettle, Coltsfoot, Parsley, Sage, Oregano, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Bay Leaf, and Thyme- – This is our special “Hair Tea” used in our conditioners. All of these herbs are good for hair, aiding in softness, shine and overall health of the hair.

Use of Preservatives is minimal but here they are:

  1. Benzoic Acid – A component of the preservative system used in some of the products.
  2. Dehydroacetic Acid – This is a component of the preservative system used in some of the products.
  3. Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate – Preservatives that keep the products from going bad. The usage rate is well below 1% of the entire weight of the formula, so there’s enough to preserve the products but not so much that it could irritate your skin.
  4. Phenoxyethanol – A preservative that is considered one of the least sensitizing and also does not release formaldehyde. knows you want the right product for your curls yesterday so all orders completed by noon and posted that day.

Tips for 2nd and 3rd day hair

Second and third day hair

Bed time pineappling – Clip (not hair elastic) your hair up to resemble a pineapple with all your curls piled up on top of your head with the clip at the crown of your head. If you’re a tosser this will stop knots and tangles whilst creating more volume.

Switch to a silk or satin pillowcase which is smoother and so there is less friction on your hair and therefore less frizz.

Steamy shower – In the morning, give your curls a shake and have a steamy shower  to rehydrate your hair without having to wet it too much. Alternatively you can use a water spray bottle to dampen and reshape any curls that need it. Apply some Jessicurl Oil Blend to smooth your curls.

If there are any tangles or flat curls then use Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling Spray to plump them up again.

What’s your trick to revive 2nd day curls back to their original glory?

Curlies have the best of both worlds

Us curlies have the best of  both worlds because we can choose to go curly or straight however for straighties no amount of gel, wax, hairspray, sea salt sprays or deluxe curling iron techniques will give the hair any kind of lift, wave, curl or body. Those gels will weigh the hair down and make it look greasy and those “curls” will inevitably die.

All over the world bathrooms are filled with gels, waxes, hairsprays and sea salt sprays that have never been used more than once because those sneaky commercials persuaded straighties to believe in miracles.

Straight hair is flat, lifeless and boring. Straight hair is straight.  It tangles easily.  Gets plastered to the head when it rains.  Knots into a tangled mess in the wind. It is more prone to static and you can’t disguise roots that are growing out.  It lacks volume, even when you cut it short, it still ends up flattening. You can try to tousle it around and flip it upside down a million times while you blow dry it, but 10 minutes later, it will inevitably fall flat on your face.  It is also usually thin, which means aging and hair loss become partners in expediting the process aided and abetted by curling or straightening.

All us curlies really need to do is control the frizz, encourage and define the curl.  Looking sensational is a lot easier when you are a curly!

Most importantly is that straight hair does not enhance the beauty of a curly.  Curlies are meant to be curly and that’s that!

  • You always stand out in a crowd
  • Naturally curly hair is always styled and ready to go
  • Curly hair has more body and volume
  • Curly hair is fun and unique
  • Naturally curly hair is super versatile

Benefits of a warm oil scalp massage once a week

It lubricates and conditions the scalp, helping to prevent flakes and dry scalp.

It helps enhance blood circulation in the head and neck area. When the scalp is “tight” from stress, circulation and hair growth are impeded.

It helps relax the scalp and increase pliability

It helps strengthen the roots of the hair and nourishes the hair-shafts, promoting new hair growth and strengthening current hair.

It helps soften and condition the hair, making it more manageable.

It spreads the natural oils of the hair, increasing hair lustre and vibrancy.

It helps protect hair from the damaging effects of the sun and harsh weather by improving resiliency over time.

It is replenishing and rejuvenating for dry, damaged hair, and helps prevent excessive brittleness and split-ends.

It is wonderfully relaxing for the mind and nervous system.

It also helps reduce body heat in general, especially if you have been up late a few nights or your eyes are smarting from too much close work on the computer or reading.

It helps promote emotional balance.

Relaxes the muscles in the neck area and can help promote sound sleep at night.

Each ingredient in Jessicurl Stimulating Scalp Massage Oil is known for its hair growth properties and it feels REALLY good to do a scalp massage with it. While it won’t re-grow hair on a bald head, it can encourage healthy hair growth for people who still have hair. The essential oils will impart a lovely tingling sensation to your scalp and the other oils in it will make your curls amazingly soft.

Apply to scalp and massage for 10-15 minutes.
To turn it into a hot oil treatment, use with heat. Leave in for 30-60 minutes then wash out. knows you want the right product for your curls yesterday so all orders completed by noon and posted that day.

Love your curls!

  1. Ask your hairstylist to cut your hair dry, not wet. And add long layers
  2. Plunking or plonking magnifies curls and stops frizz:
After washing, conditioning and adding styling products lay a microfibre towel on a chair seat and slowly plunk your hair into it and loosely wrap. Wait for about five minutes, and carefully remove the towel. Arrange your curls and then allow to completely dry before scrunching them out
  3. No need to shampoo every day.
Use conditioner yes and reapply styling products like Jessicurl Spiralicious
  4. Deep condition once a week. Jessicurl Deep Conditioning Treatment
  5. Style your hair using a diffuser on the coolest setting
  6. Sleep on silk. Cotton has a tendency to suck the moisture from your hair. Silk pillowcases allow your curls to glide over the fabric
