Getting the who, what, when ….

Published by Marilyn under Customer Information

If you’re in business the most important elements you need to relay to potential customers is who you are, what you do, where you are, when you can be contacted and how.

These rules apply to all forms of advertising and quite often are overlooked by those who build their own websites.

It’s not funny to advertise “OPEN TOMORROW”.  What does that mean?  I saw this on a website recently and when I quizzed the business they chuckled and made some lame excuse about their website hosting company!   It actually has nothing to do with the host and everything to do with the business owner.  The business doesn’t open every day so they need to tell customers what days and times they are ready to do business.

The buck stops with the business owner!  It’s up to them to ensure that not only is their business represented in their preferred way but that the basic information of who, when where is addressed.

It is also up to the business owner to supply all the information to the website designer.  I’ve lost count of the amount of times I have been asked to build a website and am then not given any details.  I’m sorry but a yellow pages ad just won’t cut it!

I’ve created websites covering  plastic surgery, boat traders, accommodation places, entertainment venues, spas, clothing, industrial machinery, vineyards, truck drivers, removalists, boat charters – I couldn’t be expected to be au fait with every industry, although I’m a lot more knowledgeable now :-) .

When potential customers go to your website they should be able to glean almost as much information as they can by speaking to you personally.  They shouldn’t have to contact you for prices, sizes, colours etc. Regular updating is as essential as changing your in store displays.

If you really want to join the online shopping revolution then you need to get serious!
